The Mayor of Barcelona opens the 700m2 Open Pavilion in Les Glòries Square.
” A pergola-shade house has been installed in the central island on the sea side. This construction, designed to become a meeting place for local people, provides shade and shelter and will also be used for cultural activities. The pergola, which is equipped with self-sufficient lighting, is formed by seven modules made from different-coloured sailcloth. The site also contains a space where information will be projected.
The sailcloth modules were designed in cooperation with Neil Harbisson. This artist, who can only see in black and white, designed the eyeborg, a technology that enables him to identify each colour with a sound, and which can be applied in the pergola. “Neil has an application, you download it and then you can hear the sounds that correspond to each colour of the sailcloth”, says Pilar Calderón, architect of the shade house.”
